  • Win XP + Winamp + Continuum

When I used Win Me and Winamp 2.78 (or something) in Continuum everything worked fine, still does.

With XP the sounds just don't work. They play like for 0,1 seconds and then there is a pause of around 5 seconds.
Has anyone had a similar problem or do you know the reason?

Note: not only the winamp sounds but also Continuum sounds have long pauses.

The problem occurs only while playing Continuum, having it in windowed mode does not affect the sounds in any way.

I haven't tried if Winamp3 works but I don't like it 'cus it uses too much resources and I only want a simple mp3player.

I haven't managed to configure SubSpaceplayer 3 to work either.. Hard program to use.. Can't add any songs to the playlist. So if anyone knows a solution to that it might be good, then I could just dump winamp

I'd say it's a driver issue somewhere along the line, or a misconfiguration. I use a XP/Winamp/Cont setup, and it works just fine.

Make sure you grab the latest sound drivers for your sound card (from the manufacturer if they have them, if not use windows update).

Well it didn't help so I'll just try to find another program to play the music while playing.

Any good suggestions for a simple player??
There are so many that it is just too difficult to find a good one without trying them all out first

Too bad, cus I play alot better when listening to good music... But then again what is the stereo for if not playing music

what is your comp power and stuff. it might more of that than actually the winamp program fault.
if you are running anti-virus software on an older comp (2 years) it might be causing this. I got new anit-virus on my old comp 6 months ago and winamp went nuts unless i disabled the anti-virus. thats a thought too.
To all the virgins, Thanks for nothing

I've used Norton antivirus 2002 for a while now and it did not cause any trouble with WinMe.

Quite a small chance that it would be the processor that would not be fast enough. Even if 800 is not much nowdays it should be more than enough for the needs of those programs.

                1. Tried to disable anti virus prog
                Didn't help

                2. Overclocked (just to test, didn't even think it would work :/ ). Duron 800@1010 (don't remember.. something over 1 GHz )
Didn't help. Nice though that I can still clock it as much as I could with my old case. Nowdays I only have one fan (processor) and a big wooden case.. Didn't affect temps as much as I was afraid it would do.
                Back to the topic

My guess would be the souncard drivers too but I've tried both new and old and they don't work.

                  XP.. got service pack 1?

Or you could try increasing the Virtual Memory, i would recomend a figure which is triple the amount of physical memry you have i.e. 128MB would have a virtaul memory size of 384MB, keep the same figure for both initial and maximum size.

Also try telling it to optimise performance for background services.

I just accidentely noticed the reason for the fault. Too bad I didn't find a solution.

I press ctrl alt del and the task manager pops up. Then I choose winamp.exe from the processes list. For some odd reson it says "low" at the priority-place. So I change it to Normal and start playing again. Works fine.

When the song ends the music stops playing properly again. So I change it back. And it chenges itself back to low again.. sigh
Anyone know how to make it stay at "normal priority"??

And yes aphix, I have SP installed.

As for SubspacePlayer 3... The program is quite easy to work. All you have to do is Clik on Add Directory in the menu.. then click All Dir List in the Menu.. Then there you go

SubSpaceplayer 2 used to work before, but now it does not, for some reason.. I think it's not quite XP compatible.

With Subspaceplayer 3 I get this error message when trying to run:
                        "Run-time error '399':
Component 'COMDLG32.OCX' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid"

So I figured that it might help to run the OCX Register program... Ran it and pressed "Register" but then nothing happens. Should I load some other file first or what?

I really like the prog so it would be fun to make it work again..

K now it's working. I copied the file 'COMDLG32.OCX' from the Win ME system folder to XP. Now it works fine..

About that thing that it is easy to use, I can say that it sure as hell is easy after you know how. I thought I would have to add each song by itself, cus I pressed "Mp3 Dirs" and then Add Dir. Then I picked the folder and wondered why the hell there was no add all song from this folder option.

                          Works fine now anyway

I think its important what version of winamp you're using. I heard that the newest one was hella buggy and made alot of programs malfunction.
