Some songs are in different languages and I only know the general meaning and some I just have no idea what they are saying but I like them anyway. Other times the lyrics makes the entire song.

For the most part I have to have a band/group that's saying something or represents something. It doesn't have to be political or anything. One of the hard things for me in downloading songs is I don't get a feel for who's behind the music. So I try and visit band websites, but they're usually some slick flashy site that says nothing about the actual band. Then I go to allmusic.com, I guess.

My ranking: interesting sound, band reputation, lyrics. For hip hop, it's nice beats and a nice flow first, which I guess still falls under the "sound" category.

Since I listen to a lot of different music, some of the things are more important than others depending on the genre. I could never listen to hiphop that had crappy beats or a bad rapper, even if the lyrics were great. The lyrics are also pretty important to me when I listen to hiphop.

I also listen to a lot of death metal, and truthfully I can't even make out the lyrics 75% of the time, so they aren't that important in that case.

I dunno. I guess overall I can't really listen to any songs with bad music/beats. I'll say that's the most important thing for me.
