Windows XP restarts by itself by default whenever it experiences a critical error (blue screen). You can turn this off and get to look at the blue screen and actually decide whether to restart or not on your own.jeeComment

It's been 3 years since I had last reinstalled Win XP, and I haven't gotten a single BSOD or comparable error so far. It's just that damn stable!
However, there's a few things to consider. First, if you installed any shit the hours or days before the computer went bonkers, remove it. Next, did you install any new hardware? If your power supply isn't up to par and can not feed your top-notch graphics card enough juice, it's common that it keeps resetting when the power demand reaches its peak. Furthermore, your CPU might be overheating, either of your components might not be properly fastened on the motherboard, your RAM might be defunct, or your knee is simply revolting against you and pressing your reset button on its own.2:Displaced> k washed my nuts, hope they stop itching now

It wasn't a crash, I came upstairs and it was in the process of shutting down as f I'd done it myself. I was pretty annoyed as I (stupidly) hadn't saved my work so I lost about 5 hour's work (I am normally a ctrl + S whore, but this time I just forgot). I ran an AV scan which came up clean it was just weird that two of my housemate's restarted in a similar fashion within about 5 minutes of eachother.
