    I just came from outside after trying this trick with a friend and it worked!!! (once, we couldn't repeat it. but still, pretty cool!)

    Can not work, urban legend.
    Car remotes work between 300 and 500 MHz, while all mobile phones (by law) operate at 800 MHz.

      Some countries use 450 MHz, so it's not physically impossible for a phone, I think.

        I know European phones don't work in USA and Canada, don't know if that is because the Mhz that is being used or something else.

          european phones uses gsm 900 and gsm 1800, and us use gsm 1900. many phones can use all three bands.. (and yes, you can buy those phones in europe)

            Older, first generation mobile phones might have years ago, used in 1-2 Nordic countries, Eastern Europe and Russia, but that was all prior to the introduction of standard GSM bands. I highly doubt that the joke is targeted to the handful of crusty old cell systems that might still be using GSM-400 frequencies.

              I'm gonna go ahead and say its fake because the explaination he gave made absolutely no sense to me. And plus, his other hand with the keyless entry thing was not visible the last time the car was unlocked.
