  • Hard Drive problem

I just recently added a old maxtor(10gb) harddrive to my rig and now it freezes my computer for a few seconds every time it start spinning and when it shuts down. I tried the config for the harddrive and it says "always on" under the display properties. The harddrive is formated in FAT32 instead of NTFS... could that be the problem? i want the harddrive to be always spinning so my system dosent freeze for a few secs waiting for that. please help.

Get the data off it and format it. There might be somethin physically wrong with it, so don't store critical data on it.

In other words, does your hard drive stops spinning once in awhile, and then starts a few seconds (or minutes) later?

That happened to me with an old (Socket 7) motherboard; my hard drive would shut down with any kind of BIOS or OS settings.

Right now, this motherboard/hard disk is on Linux, and that problem is gone - but I dont know how the hell I managed to resolve that problem.
