  • TSLB Standings -- Week 3

Note: Terr/Shark/Spider values are calculated from a different sheet that uses rounded values, while Overall uses decimal values (i.e., you got 32$ in shark, but it's actually 31.7, and Overall Value is counting it as 31.7, while the Shark Value column is counting it as 32.) So those values maybe be a few dollars off. I'm looking into it.

Color me red pls. Terr rating still needs tweaking. That terr game you gave us both 15 should be more like 40 for me and 5 for you.

Wondering how in this game Ogron is awarded 30 for Terrier and I am 20, although my team won by 1 sec? Okay he has two teks but seriously 20 even though I made the kill requirements? (In the sheet above I believe this game is S29). Not that it matters just curious.

I've already explained terrier, and ONLY terrier... at the start of the season... in these forums. I wrote the response to these inquiries almost a month ago because I know people like Henry Saari and Rab exist, and would start posting my boxscores.

The only exception I would consider is in terr, since I'm writing the formulas and I terr, if there is close competition in that ship, and it's one of the more difficult positions to grade, in the interest of transparency. I could see a situation where there's a race between myself, Pressure, Mikkiz for the lone 2 spots in the Finals for terr, where Thix would raise a red flag of suspicion over the math.

        Terr:

        =((KPG/4)+(IF(KDA>15,15,KDA))*1)+(Teks*2)+(TeamScore)

The current formula is Kills Per Game (more accurately, your kills had the game gone the full 30 minutes) divided by 4, plus your KDA (capped at 15), plus Teks multiplied by two, plus TeamScore (how well your team did, this is unified across all ships and leagues, and not being published).

I think you'll find the formulas fairly robust and difficult to game or abuse.

Again, I reserve the right to modify the formulas over the first two weeks to make sure they pass the eye test.

Spidering should now bring in roughly the same rewards as other ships. Will continue to tweak it until balanced.

Terrs who average less than 30 kills per 30 minutes will now see value penalties to their GameScore. This is an extremely low bar, and only 3 terrs have managed to go under it (Henry Saari, bellflowers (2x), and porkjet). For every kill below 30 (remember, your kills are prorated as if it were a full 30 minute game) 2$ will be taken off your score.

Henry Saari (17-2, prorated to 27 kills)
Porkjet (17-7, prorated to 22 kills)
Bellflowers (15-3, prorated to 21 kills)
Bellflowers (26-10, prorated to 28 kills)

Every other ship is tasked with carrying their own weight, and Terr should be no different. Major Crisis, Turban, Trasher, Ogron, Cape, Rab, dreamwin, and Kess have all averaged between 36-80 KPG, so 30 KPG is not an ambitious target.

I have not touched the WB or Jav formulas ever, they work fantastic.

I tinkered with the basing formulas and locked them in Week 2.

        The terring formula is:

        =(((H871/2.6)+(IF((B871/C871)>10,10,(B871/C871)))*1)+(E871*3)+(IF((SUM(B874:B878))<(SUM(B883 :B887)),((SUM(B883:B887))-(SUM(B874:B878)))/12,0))+IF(H871<30,(30-H871)*-2,0))-C871+K871

        =(((KPG/2.6)+(IF((Kills/Deaths)>10,10,(Kills/Deaths)))*1)+(Teks*3)+(IF((SUM(FriendlySpiderKills1:FriendlySpiderKi lls5))<(SUM(EnemySpiderKills1:EnemySpiderKills5)), ((SUM(EnemySpiderKills1:EnemySpiderKills5))-(SUM(FriendlySpiderKills1:FriendlySpiderKills5)))/12,0))+IF(KPG<30,(30-KPG)*-2,0))-Deaths+TeamScore

You can imagine that in a 15:00-14:59 game, the team win/time bonuses are fairly negligible between the two terriers, then factor in I had more kills, better KDA, 2 teks to your 0, and my spiders got outkilled, giving me further bonuses for playing on a team that got outkilled. When you figure that I got 6$ in Teks alone more than you, it's not hard to imagine more kills on a team with spiders that got outkilled adds up to the extra 4-5$, accounting for the 30$ to 20$ difference.

As for your 11-0 hiding all game doing nothing on a significantly better team, that has already been explained in detail in previous posts. The formula is not going to reward hiding DNBs.

Your 11 kills are prorated to 20.6 KPG, costing you -2$ for every kill below 30 KPG.

I've been extremely transparent about terr scores, the formula has been set for weeks, and hope this will satisfy your curiosity.
Basing statistics are never going to be perfect. Teks outside the FlagRoom should not be worth as much (flinging a piece of shrap and costing the enemy team 15 seconds does not hold the same value as getting a crucial tek in a 50/50 FR fight), but for the purposes of TSL they have the same value.

That said, the formulas are geared towards action, and doing things that are measurable. Offense is measurable. Winning is measurable. Winning games or losing in a close game is worth much more than losing in a blowout.

KDA is not factored in spidering, only your kills are, so camping serves no purpose and is therefore dis-incentivized. Hiding all game in terr is dis-incentivized. I've done my best to simply make the formulas invisible and reward playing aggressively, and playing to win. Camping and hiding are not going to be rewarded in TSL.

            Good eye, apologies.

Kentaro was 22-42 and I have to manually assign shark and terr duties, sometimes it's hard to tell based off boxscore. I must have assumed he sharked, and not noticed your 9-65.

The second game I had you as shark but you and Geio are both sharks and next to each other and the scores are getting further way from the Names row, and I clicked the wrong one (I have to manually color them, too. Then I created a macro since Excel won't sum by color, which is in another file, and which doesn't take decimal values and takes round values... kill me).

I'm not going to repost a new image just for that, but rest assured the master sheet has been updated. Also, your 3$ turned into 21$, since it is now being processed by the Shark rating formula instead of the Spider formula.

There's too much focus on killing in the terr formula. Basing isn't like wb or jav where you kill someone 10 times and then they're out. You can pump your score up by killing sharks who want to respawn, and since there's no death limit it won't advance your team. They will be there even after you've killed them 25 times. Contrary to what you are suggesting it is actually these kill quotas that can be dangerous, not hiding. A terr can pick easy targets in the back, knowing his score is therefore secured, stop pushing with the team and claim plausible deniability that he didn't cause the team to lose because hey he killed stuff.

Also "hiding" doesn't really apply as criticism to a ship like terrier whose main purpose is to stay alive. If someone were to _actually_ hide for rec in mid or something they would get yelled at by their team pretty fast.

I'll tell you what, why don't you reach 6 consecutive basing finals in terr, then come talk to me about how terriers should play and be rated.

I'm getting tired of 7-Star spiders named Rab and Holy Ship who need low-star slots to be playable in TWDT, let alone TWL, telling me what to do.

If you're unhappy with the terr formulas, create and design your own league from scratch and do all the work.

Great terriers possess the ability to be aggressive and stay alive, and the formula rewards both.

                There's a reason why Cape, Trasher, Thix and myself can repeatedly get scores (prorated to 30 minutes) of 55-2, 80-3, 45-0, 44-1,47-3, 49-0, 44-3, 65-6, 54-5, 47-2, 56-4, 45-2, 54-6, 70-3, 46-2, 54-4, 62-5 in TSLB, and you can't.

Every delusional fucktard in this zone has terred and won a few games on a better team where he got lots of bursts, did nothing of note, and went 30-1 and thought "man, this is easy!". No pressure, nothing on the line, no team getting badly outkilled, not playing between enemy mine shrap lines, not dropping sharks at the ideal spots, not bulleting or getting superior position, not counting enemy shark reps and attaches to fire bursts between gaps, no perfect memorizing of every burst pattern and spot, not aggressively climbing cram during breaks to give your sharks perfect high reps, not perfectly gauging enemy underspids who broke through and killing them by diving and bulleting them, not making key impact warps to swing games, etc.

When you go 70-3 in terr, win a TWLB in terr, and win a TWDT-B in terr as a high-star player, you can start telling me about how my terrier formula is wrong.

I don't think anyone really disagrees that if the game is tight those extra kills can make the difference.

That doesn't mean you punish people for playing a perfect game just because the game wasnt tight.

It's meant to be 20 games, not 20 close games. We need to be able to get a respectable score in each game.

Playing perfectly in that one-sided game only got me $15 I may as well have not showed.

Playing perfectly in the other one-sided game got me $53. They were basically the same game. I played the same. The score is the same. The values are opposite ends of the scale.

I did propose deaths per minute as a good place to start.
