I was playing wbduel today and now I see the lag limits is at 40, before it was 90. Even when it was at 90 still lots of players get lagged out, now they even made it worse.

The staff that I talked before told me they would tweak the lag limits to help reduce this problem, now it seems the reverse has occured; now its even more stricter.

I have cable internet, and get 110ms normally.

Since I live on the West Coast, there is no way to get under 90ms ping; I know on East Coast you get something like 30ms ping. Obviously nothing can be done about this, because of geographical distances.

The system we had before worked fine, then within this year they start to make it stricter leaving many players out in the dust.

Who is doing these lag limit changes? What is going to be done about them in the future?

Just one of the arenas I love to play in is wbduel, and now they are ruining it.

I'm not sure at this time if the twd matchbots have these lag limit changes, last time I played in a twdd match everything was fine.

That isn't a lag limit. It's a lag SPIKE limit. It means your current ping in ms suddenly deviated 73.28ms from your usual/average ping. I think it's mostly meant to keep people from downloading/uploading files while playing at the same time. It's just another way of keeping laggots out of the game that the client itself can't do. Imagine playing against someone that doesn't go over the HIGH lag limits, but who's ping jumps from 10ms to 100ms constantly. The game wouldn't spec him but he would be jumping enough to fuck the game up.

People that get specced by the bot usually are either lagcheating, downloading while playing, have crappy phone/cable lines, or just live really far away from the server. It's true that it keeps a lot of people from playing.

Now having said that, it seems to me that either a lot more people lagcheat or have shitty connections than I thought, or the lag checking really isn't very accurate. I'm not sure how much of a deal a 40ms spike is, and I have no idea how often they tweak it, but I believe that the lag spike limit in base/twbd/twlb was pretty much taken off. I'll ask someone about the wbduel/javduel limits I guess.

It's probably at 100 in TWL.

Yes indeed, they've been killing the zone for a while now. 40 ms for a spike limit is way too low. 90 ms would be good. It's not like you will constantly have spikes like that. I can't really understand why the limits are made more strict all the time. While you should do the opposite.

I don't find it too strict, except if I want to download while playing, it will sometimes spec me.

The average spike of people playing ?go base and wbduel is around 20, if not even less. Spikes are taken out of the *tinfo moderator command, which shows the difference between the packet arriving times. If the difference varies with huge numbers, then it is normally shown as 'spiking' in the game.

The reason for that the spike limit was set so high before (120) was that there were several bugs in the lag checking system. For example some motherboards (mainly of the Asus manufacter) make the *tinfo rise continuously, and this had to be taken in account in the lag system. Without this fix most people with Asus motherboards had a spike med of around 100, even if they weren't lagging at all. This, however, should now be fixed in the RoboKing bots. So only lag cheaters (downloading while playing, having some program pinging the server or likely) and people with bad connections (such as 56k from Australia, I'm sorry) should not be able to play because they affect negatively in the other players' playing experience.

If you, however, feel that you indeed have a good connection, no other computers slowing down your connection, a new computer which doesn't cause lag and you are sure you haven't got problems with your ISP, then, only then:

You can send a private message to Sika in the game and he might have a look at if there is something suspicious. However, do not send a ?message to him, as it is unpossible for him to do anything if you aren't experiencing the being-specced-by-a-matchbot problems right at the time you talk to him. Also please not disturb him while he is playing, especially his TWL matches - it is not his duty to help you; he does it only because he is nice enough to be willing to help you.

Additionally, the RoboKing MatchBots (MatchBotRs, R as in Remote) now give an extra death to a player only when the player specs on his own or disconnects/gets disconnected from the server - not when the bot itself specs the player for being over the lag limits.

These both updates will be put up onto RoboQueen (the TWD MatchBots and, if the TWL ops so wish, the TWL bots will be affected).

Wow, some good news at least. Nice. I'm still skeptical with that spike limit though. Does it allow you to go over the limit a few times or does it spec you the first time it happens?

true i've finished to play 3 games in wbduel and in both of them both teams weren't able to finish with enough members and got out of subs, some thing was happening in tourny... i got out of lagouts more than once and i can't even say that i lag. I don't know why they have lowered it but if it keeps going this way i won't be able to play... everytime i got a kill i got specced by the bot, and i wasn't downloading anything and i have a very expensive connection... this has to change otherwise lots of people won't be able to keep up and continue playing.

That was pretty stupid. It's obvious that people from Australia etc all have very bad ping, and it's hardly ever under 200-300ms.
