  • Motivation

So I’ve got exams in a few weeks time and a 5000 word essay to do as well but I have absolutely no motivation to do any of this stuff. I had around five weeks off from university and found that while I was at home for around three weeks I did hardly any work, although when I did I was fairly productive but got distracted really easily.

Now I’ve come back to university a week earlier to finish off the work and continue revising but find that I just cannot do it. This was never the case before such as last year when I spent ages revising and had no problems doing so.

I’m thinking it is only first year so that maybe why I’m lacking motivation and the lack of structured work throughout the year has meant that I have not had to revise or do continuous work in almost a year contributes to it.

I know some on you are graduates and currently at university or school, did/do you find this being the case in your courses? How do you motivate yourself if you’ve got this problem?

(This is odd i posted this in General Discussion but it came here, move it if you want)
Making your mark on the world is hard. If it were easy, everybody would do it. But it's not. It takes patience, it takes commitment, and it comes with plenty of failure along the way. The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won't. it's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.:fear:

Although make sure you don't do something like tetrisfriends while waiting for it to kick in. You'll be on tetrisfriends for awhile. Also, don't be my roommate and take an XR at 5pm.

Age, unfortunately you can only get adderall on prescription here so that's a rather long winded process seeing as they probably never give it anyway lol bottom of my posts explains why it got posted here

Pandagirl!, don't worry I’ve already been through the Tetris friends phase :P

Jingly, that's more headache than the adderall :P

Yeah, around the middle of my junior year of university, I ran into this problem. It maybe wasn't so much a lack of motivation as it was "hitting the wall," in the running sense. Luckily I had busted my ass prior to this, so I was able to mostly cruise the rest of the way to my degree. Even the cruising was difficult at times. What I found the most useful was to write out my high-level goals, then chunk them up into manageable parts. I actually physically wrote these out with pen and paper. When you lack motivation, I think it's crucial to break things up into parts you can hopefully accomplish right now. Otherwise the task will look so daunting you'll run off to the first Flash game you can find.

You better find some motivation quick before your grades start take a dive. For me, my biggest motivation is that I must do better than everyone else. Mediocrity is a terrible, terrible thing. Being average is a disease some are happy to accept, for others it is exactly that, a disease. I motivate myself by thinking about the next step, what happen's after this. I think about how I need to do well to get into a good grad school, to get the internships and experiences I want, and simply for me.

Para, I Understand where you are coming from but this is my first year and it doesn’t count for my final grade, which is good but good knowledge is required in first year otherwise people tend to have problems in second year and so forth. That maybe a contributing factor to why I’m so unmotivated but I think it’s getting better though I’ve managed to be fairly productive today. I don’ particularly like getting beaten anyway. Last year before getting into university I used to study with this one friend, we did the same courses so decided to study together, he was a bit smarter than me so that pushed me to revise and same to him because if I revised then I would be at his level. Unfortunately he missed getting into this university by around 3 marks on this piece of coursework we did, although he is coming this coming year. So kind of got reliant on him for motivation I think and my friends at university don’t quite work like him so it’s more difficult. But you are right, got to do it for yourself.

Blocks, actually have been doing it, but the biggest issue is getting started as the topics to cover in a specific module can reach over 40 topics and that just seems forever! And I have six modules .

Nockm, I’ll do it for Sanchez and the crew and one day I will have my own Sanchez if I do well :P
