  • Problems hosting games online with some games.

    I upgraded my pirated Sins of a Solar Empire to a fully legal version, to get access to the online feature of the game. However, I can't host any games, I get this error that there are something wrong with ports/NAT.

    The internet here is basically a router (SpeedTouch 546i v6), and a couple of switches that shares the signal, nothing fancy.

    The game requires me to have the default 6112 port open to host games, or to have uPnP enabled. I've enabled uPnP in vista, and my friend has in XP. I've enabled uPnP in the router settings. There's absolutely no firewall issue.

    I've tried to manually mapping the port to my current session IP, just to get it to work before messing with static IPs.

    No matter what the fuck I do it still won't work. uPnP, manually mapping, checking firewall on both my system and on the router.

    I'm on the verge of giving up, I've even struggled with this for so long, that I've learned quite a bit about this and my router.

    WHAT THE FUCK CAN I DO? I HATE COMPUTERS!

      There isn't any.

      It's just a small ingame message window that tells me that most other players can't connect to me when I'm hosting a game. It spesifies that it's a NAT issue, and that I should turn on uPnP/forward the game port. I've done both.

        You could remove the router and plug directly to your PC to see if the router is causing the problems or some settings on your computer are.
        When narrowed down this problem should be more easy to tackle.

          Unfortunatly, that can't be done. There is no way I could stretch the cable to go directly into my computer.

          However, there's a XP computer on the network as well, and the same problem is there too. So with both a Vista and XP system on, there shouldn't be an issue with the computers. I'm starting to get really used to Vista, and I'm learning most of the advanced stuff. I'm already down with the networking part, so I highly doubt it's the computers.

          Maybe my ISP, or the router itself is faulty?

            Taken from http://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/faqs.aspx:

            Q: The game is telling me that I may not be able to host the game. What do I need to configure?

            A: The default port Sins of a Solar Empire uses for hosting games is 6112 (TCP). The default port can be changed in the user.setting file (see power user settings in the technology section).

            Make sure your router has this Port Forwarded to your computer's IP address or has UPnP enabled. All computers behind a router should have their own unique GameHostPort setup in case the original host leaves and a new host for the game is needed.

            Here is an Example: (computers behind router):

            Computer IP user.settings -> GameHostPort Router Port Forwarding Setting

            192.168.1.47 6001 6001 -> 192.168.1.47
            192.168.1.201 6002 6002 -> 192.168.1.201
            192.168.1.35 6003 6003 -> 192.168.1.35

            Q: Where can I get more help with setting up my computer for multiplayer?

            A: We recommend you check out:

            http://www.kiclan.com/Monk/Networkin...y_the_Monk.pdf

            Another site we recommend is: http://portforward.com/default.htm

            Maybe you have to open the ports in the 6k range as well?

              Thank you for making an effort.

              I've followed that guide, and I've retried it several times, just to make sure I didn't make any input efforts. I also followed the guide to my router on portforward.com, and I've spent several hours learning the router setup UI. I even read the entire pdf document, without finding anything helpful.

              Edit: I found it helpful, and I tried it out several times, and for each time I focused more and more to not make any stupid mistakes.

              It still didn't resolve the issue.

              Whats frustrating is that since I don't have a static IP, then that would be the error, and I'd know what to do. However, even if you set everything up with a dynamic IP, it will work untill you restart your computer/router since the IP will be the same (static) untill you turn off and it gets a new IP.

              I fucking opened every port from 1 to 55555 to make sure it wasn't an error with which port were open.

                Heh, check this out:
                http://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com...spx?aid=176308

                Edit: It's too good not to spoil, apparantly the error message is a false-positive because the connectivity check is pretty much fucked up.
                You will be able to host games despite it and you should ignore it in most cases.
                At least you learned loads on networking and routers

                  Hahahaha, someone stab me in the eye. Fucking piece of shit!

                  I searched the forums up and down, without finding anything other than reposts of that guide you reposted. I guess I missed this.

                  Thank you, Singularity, I were about to call and wait 30 minutes in line to yell like a mad motherfucker at my ISP. +10 e-credits, and I owe you one.

                    its your router, you need to set up a static IP from the computer to the router, open your ports, and it will work, i had the same exact problem, this will fix it.

                      Read the thread, man. I've said that I've done all this, and the reason why it didn't work was because the error message was buggy and came up anyway.
