1.I think you are wrong, and I am pretty sure that PL and Dock> who I trust (Especially Dock>) infinitely more than you basically drove the point home. This is the problem with some coders who code for this zone, they think they can do no wrong, they think that their coding is flawless and there is nothing that could possibly be wrong with it, they think that the solution to fixing things in the zone is adding more and more bots as if that will fix anything. You need to take a step back from your ego and look at the big picture, I might not be a coder or know anything about coding for that matter. But it doesn't really take a genius to put two and two together. The zone and the bots have become drastically more unstable in the last few years, there are more crashes, more lag, and more bot failures than ever before this season, and population has decreased not increased while as Dock> pointed out we are on the exact same hardware that we have always been on. Dock> also said that the hardware isn't the problem and that it is running up to snuff. That leaves ONE possible explanation as to what is causing the problems with the game, which is the coding, the new bots, and the additions and changes made to twcore. Like I said earlier, I trust Dock>'s when he tells me that it isn't the hardware, I trust PL when he brings up quotes from Priitk the genius coder who worked on projects like skype and kazaa when he tells us that the coding is flawed and or bad.

3.I am just basically tired of you telling me that TW would be so lost without the 5000 additions done to the bots over the last few years that made this game unstable. I would be perfectly happy with a zone that didn't randomly crash, let me finish a twdd/twjd/twbd match without the bot crashing and/or lagging for 10 seconds, and a zone that didn't randomly kick 50 people off for no apparent reason at random times. You will never be able to obtain in TW or anywhere in Continuum a bot system or a graphic interface that can compare to new age games, or any mmorpg that has nothing but bot ran quests etc. People play this game for its simplicity, they play this game because of the people playing it, the squads they are playing on, and because it is free. So I would gladly take the original bots that Myth coded for elim that are bare bones but stable over the current ones which are so full of cool awesome features and crash several times daily.

I do agree that the bots have become increasingly unstable as of late. Whether we can blame one person is hard to say. Probably the biggest problem is that DoCk> used to preside over the entire bot core and server on a weekly if not daily basis. He hasn't been around for a long time, and this was his baby.

Back in the day, we only had a handful of programmers making serious additions like Myth and 2dragons (who had his share of crashing bots, but the guy was persistent in fixing problems at least). Over time though, things tend to break down.

When you have lots of random people making random additions all the time to something, if there's no one overseeing it, eventually the system will be so complex that unforeseen things will happen.

For all we know, the problem with the bots is just some null pointer somewhere, some missing semicolon or someone accidentally adding or deleting some important file that was never to be changed. The entire thing is now just so unwieldy that it would be very hard to find what the actual problem is.

So unless we actually know what is causing the problems, I think it's problematic to blame a particular person, especially a person who is politically an easy target because they deleted a porn thread on this forum and banned someone a month ago that was unpopular.


Philosophically though, I think that the bots are far too complex for their own good. At the risk of sounding like an old fogie, we used to host TWL and innovative games WITHOUT the aid of super fancy bots and people still enjoyed their time back in the day. Alternately we also had lots of fun with very simple but effective bots back in 2003-2005 without having a million add-on modules which add to the overall complexity and likelyhood of crashing of the entire thing.

Thanks for your input Epi, but as we all know the people who have a chance at fixing the situation are most probably doing their best. I rather relay the hate to myself than let it disturb the people are actually working on it. This is why the earlier topic was closed, public debating between people who weren't in staff and didn't have anything constructive to put to the table wasn't helping anymore. I have total confidence in our Dev people to solve the issues that may be many.
