    Warbird/TWDD Tips

    1. Resolution

Your resolution determines how much of the screen you see and is probably the most important factor determining how good you will play. Trench Wars has a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 for 4:3 monitors or 1440x900 if you're using widescreen (a lot of laptops only go up to 1280x800.) The higher the resolution, the more you can see and the easier it is to aim and dodge, So you want to use the highest resolution you can (without going over the limit of course.) When playing on windowed mode, this may reduce your resolution if your desktop resolution is the same or lower than your game resolution (example: if your desktop is 1024x768, and you select 1024x768 or higher in game, your actual resolution will be 992x704 on windowed mode.) To change your resolution select the "Resolution" tab on your Continuum start up screen. You can also see your squad mates or your opponents resolution by searching their names here: http://www.trenchwars.org/index.php?v=pubstats

    2. Options

There are some options you can change to optimize your game. Select the view tab on the start up screen and then select options as shown below

Now simply change the options to ones shown in the pictures below

When one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion.

    3. Graphics

These next two graphics will change your asteroids so there is a white outline of them making them easier to see and aim around. Right click the image, select save as, go to your continuum/graphics folder, change save as type to "all files", left click the over1.bm2 file, then click save, then click yes to replace the file. Repeat this but select over3.bm2 instead of over1.bm2

Right click the image, select save as, go to your continuum/graphics folder, change save as type to "all files", left click the over2.bm2 file, then click save, then click yes to replace the file.

This will add a red dot to the front of your ship which I find helps with aiming. right click the image, select save as, go to your continuum/graphics folder, change save as type to "all files", left click the ships.bm2 file, then click save, then click yes to replace the file.

When one person suffers from a delusion it is called insanity. When many people suffer from a delusion it is called Religion.

Here is my big bullets image. Right click the image, select save as, go to your continuum/graphics folder, change save as type to "all files", left click the bullets.bm2 file, then click save, then click yes to replace the file.

here are some alternative bullets graphics as well:

    Gameplay tips

Try to keep moving at all times, the less you're moving the easier a target you are.

Pace your deaths. The last thing you want to do is to die out and leave your teammates outnumbered. Say if you have 5 deaths and the score is 10-10. At this point, you need to realize you are in danger of dieing out quickly and adjust your style of play. Basically shoot people on radar and don't let the blue ships get to close to you.

If an opponent has a high amount of deaths, try to knock him out of the game without being too aggressive and giving him an easy kill. This is especially important if your team is down a player or more already, so that your team isn't playing outnumbered for too long.

Have a short memory. If you get spawned or someone eats a bullet, try to forget it quickly and focus on what is happening in the game currently. No need to whine to your teammates about it either.

Spawning strategy. What I often do is if I'm in the spawn area and I see a kill message an enemy has died, I let my energy recharge and just wait to see if he'll spawn near me so that I can get off a quick shot before he can react. This is especially useful if someone is high on deaths and you're trying to knock them out of the game.

Suicides. If you're on 9 deaths be aware your opponents may try to suicide you. It's in their best interest to take a death if it means knocking you out of the game.
Try to avoid this by not letting them get to close to you.

any new player who's already made the jump to posting or reading forums most likely are already hooked on the game. therefore, this is useless.

So then paradise, instead of giving up at the 'oh, they wont see this unless they come on the board', why don't we try and figure out a way for them to read guides? Or atleast see some type of helpful information besides the automatic tips they see from the default installation that look like *arena messages?

Let's take a trip down memory lane.. You're in a public arena, you've played a few times already and you're trying to get better.

How would you like to be approached? What are your wishes?
Do you want someone to private message you and say 'Hey, are you looking for some tips to get better?' or 'Hey, need any help?' or 'Hey, how's your gaming today? Are you having fun?'

Somehow, this strangely irks me. Why were ZH's removed (and when)? I don't think I was active anymore when they got 'abolished'

    Handy Tips:
Change your key defs - Go to view - Controller/Key defs... and change the repel button to something that doesn't conflict with whatever you use for thrust and shoot. This stops the delay between doing a thrust shot.
Thrust shot - When I'm rushing I hold down shift (thrust) then less than second later I hold down ctrl (shoot) and then release shift when I have enough energy to shoot.
To get extra pace on a shot, I find it useful to not be facing the enemy and just before I shoot I quick turn my ship to the enemy and release shift. This confuses the player because they don't see me aiming at them.
Dodging - Always face side on to the enemies gun, that way you can dodge up or down because if you don't and your facing head on, you can't dodge the bullet.
When I'm trying to dodge a rush with no energy, I face side on and hold down shift and move up and down whilst turning slightly to confuse the player.
Ship control - I found that mastering the arena ?go balance helped with my ship control. It helps me when I'm rushing or being rushed, it's easier to skip passed rocks; this helps to preserve energy whilst the opponent goes the long way around.
Aiming - I practice my aiming by shooting rocks in a private arena. Just fly around aiming at rocks, it's really that simple.
Radaring - Constantly be on the move and be aware of who shot first and which blue dot will have the energy to shoot again. I always find that aiming for rocks close to the enemy gets a few kills.
Mid-Range - Use the dodging technique i explained before, always face side-on when recharging. Also when mid-ranging use the thrust shot technique i explained earlier but just go forward a tiny bit and release shift.

That's all I can think of so far, but if you have any questions on my game play, feel free to ask and I'll try and help you.

this is especially handy in javelins if you change the mine button to something else. the difference isn't so great in wbs, it's almost unnoticable. i believe the game thinks you're trying to rep (in javelin it says 'too many mines') and won't fire a shot if you have the shift+ctrl combo for them, even if you can't.

the real thrustshots are still in ufc, and the difference between those and this are worlds apart. but it's still one of the few good tip's for anyone.

    Warbird Tips

    1. Do not enter my screen while I have full energy unless your only intention is to die.

    2. If your energy is depleted and I am rushing you, let go of every button on your keyboard for you are dead already and are just wasting time.

    Mega Newbie's tips

1 - Never forget to use antiwarp. I know this advice may sound dumb, but it is impressive the amount of players that still dont use antiwarp. there are GREAT players that still don't use antiwarp. I remember I was in twl vs -final- , playing for dice, and i warped in the corner of the map, against 4 of their players ( considered the "best" players witch im not gonna say the names here), and my warping was essential to the victory of 50-48.To see if the enemy has antiwarp activated or not, use a little of energy and press the warp button, if the enemy was no anti, it will say you have not enough energy to warp, else, it will say witch player has antiwarp. I owned many 1v1's by warping for noticing that the enemy had no anti.

2 - Do you know where exactly the bullets goes on your radar? I know.Go make a test with a friend. You need to have an idea of where 8 basic shots goes. there are 4 basic shots (up,down, left, right) and the other 4 basic diagonals ones (they all go exactly at the corner of the radar, but not on the screen). Make ur brain get used to these bullets, and your radar shots are going to get better. By practing this, you will eventually know where exactly every shot goes on the radar, by just using simple logic.

3 - Do you know how thrusting works? I will explain how. You can thrust by holding shift + up
or shift + down or shift + up + down)

one of these conditions must be happening for you to be able to thrust. By knowing this, you can do whatever you want with ur ship. The maximum ship thrusting control is when you use thrust and at the same time constantly spin your ship on a straight line. You can do that by switching the keys at the correctly moment this way: shift+up, shift+up+down, shift+down, shift+down+up, shift+up, etc...

Practice this and you will dominate your ship control.

4 - "The First Shot" - at the start of the game, many people use shift to find faster the enemy at the start of the game. DON'T do that. Why are you going to do that? I mean, your allies arent in danger , they are together with you, you dont need to hurry to find the enemy. If you use shift, you are going to lose your energy, adn when you find the enemy, you will get too close to him, and he will notice you and maybe even kill you. You lost an opportunity.

My advice is, at the start of the game, (twdd, 1v1's, whatever) you need to go at the maximum velocity (without thrusting), so your bullet can be as faster as possible, and aim at the same direction whenever you are going to (bcz that's the biggest probability where the enemy will appear) and fire right after you see the enemy appear on ur radar. If you do that, you will have a great chance of killing the enemy. It's a dangerous radar shot. I call it.. "the first shot"

5 - spawn - Spawning is bad for the good player. I mean, if this game was all about spawn, teorically everyone would go 10-10. Is that what the good player want? No. First avoid spawns by avoiding going to the spawn area, however, if its invevitable, try dodging before spawning. most people try to fire, and not to dodge. Dodging is much better. Also, if you "reborn" on a inevitable situation and is about to getting spawned, try warping.

Enough tips from my part, tired of writing. Kisses.

Alright.. I'm with some more time today

    Mega Newbie's Tips

    - Rock kill - Have you ever been in a situation like this?

The enemy is hiding behind a rock. In this case, Nervoso FAB is making a mistake. Why?
Well, If you are fast enough, you can kill him at his ass before he can get away or do a 180 degrees to kill you.

So, whenever you see an enemy on this situation, remember this and kill him! Just caution to not get too excited and miss the shot or hit the rock instead.

Also, remember, if you hide behind a rock, never place ur ship that way.

    - Positioning -

The image explain itself. The good players stay at the corner of the teaming, and the newbies, at the middle. It is simple to understand why. Look at the newbie. Everyone can fire at him, he is an easy target. And he cant try an agressive attack or else he is going to get owned.

Now look at the Elite player. He isnt an easy target for everyone. He is actually a hard target for some of the players. Also, he can try an agressive attack, and still escape alive.

So, always stay at these positions when teaming.Your chances of playing well get way bigger.

    Mega Newbie's Tips

We play on a rectangle - This game has a problem. If it was perfect and fair, everyone would play on a circle screen. Because then you could see , no matter witch direction, the same distances.

It doesnt happen on the rectangle screen witch we all play in. So, when defending yourself, try putting the enemy on one of your diagonals, and when attacking, attack the enemy from the sides, or even better, from up or down.

Hmmmmm, I will continue... another day... kisses.

    Alright..

    Mega Newbie's Tips

Today im gonna show a method on how to escape in a 1 vs 5, 1 vs 4, or any situation alike.

You know.. there are 2 options when you are in a situation like that. Or you suicide.... Or you can try to run, escape, get safe, and kill one by one.
Of course that second option sounds more interesting.

The problem thought, is how to get away from the enemies. I mean.. they are all hunting you.

Why people die in a 1 vs 5? They die because there are walls.

Walls?Yep.. walls... I will explain better.

If the twdd was infinite, just like the real space is teorically, you could run forever, right?
I mean, the players would try to hunt you, but you would run forever in the same direction...
eventually, they would get tired and give up of hunting you.

This doesnt happen in twdd. Because there are Walls. TWDD map has limits, its a rectangle. You cant run forever. U can be happy and run for some time, but eventually the hapiness of your face is going to turn into sadness....you will find a wall in front of you, and you will have to face your enemies. This is where your death comes. That's how people die in 1 vs 5.

Now.. lets ilustrate what I just said..

How many times you've been in that situation?? A lot, hum???
    And what happens next??

    This, then:

Yep... Yep... "ferrou" means like "im fucked"

Yep.. Yep... This is what happens... this is how you die in 1 v 5. this is how everyone dies when a corner is in the way.

You -> Nooooooooooooooooo... Noooooooooo What do i do mega newbie??? what do i do, my master?? What do i do , huge dick guy??? I dont want to die!! whats your advice?????

    Calm down.

This situation is so common, but so common, that people just got used to it. I mean... Their brains automatically do the job for them. Thats where we can get advantage from.
Maybe people will get aware of this since i'm turning it public, but i used and abused this tactic, which bring to me many victories. Just look:

People got so used to that situation that they automatically try to "close" you... but they end up opening a place to escape...

You dont really need to go up....

bounce on the wall.. and run away...

    Fun.. no???

Like I said, maybe many ppl will get aware since im turning this public. but I did use that method to escape from these situation many times. And its fucking fun. The enemies get all like "WTF" , facing the wall, while you... are miles away....

the advantage you get from doing that is HUGE. You not only escape from the enemies, but you get a lot of time to recharge your energy. I mean, while you bounce from the wall, you enemies are going to face the wall, stop their ship, notice that you are getting away, think, turn their ships 180 degress, and then, finally, go after you. They lose precious time.

    Think about it....

I will give more tips... another day...

    Mega Newbie's Tips

    - When your enemy (or you... or the server) is lagging - If you know theres lag in the game, you have to play safe, in a long distance. This because if you play too close , the enemy will eventually surprise you, eat the bullet and kill you. And you are going to get mad. However, if you play in a long distance,it doesnt really matter if the enemy eats, because it won't really interfer in your game. The enemy can't eat every shot, he will eventually die.

    - 2v2 situation -

    translating: voce = you / inimigo = enemy / aliado = teamate

Whenever you are in this type of situation, try to kill the enemy that is facing your ally, not the enemy that is facing you. This because the enemy that is facing you is ready for your attack, he is ready to dodge and everything, because he is the closest one to you and he knows that. But the enemy that is facing your ally, isnt expecting your attack.

    - 2vs1 -

In this case you arent the "1" .. you are in the team that has 2 players.
Whenever you get in that situation, try to fire in different moments than your teamate. Ive seen many people lose 2 vs 1 games just because they fire at the damn same time!

The problem of shooting at the same time is that you give the enemy a chance to attack. He is going to attack one of you and you or your ally wont be able to do anything.

So, whenever you play in a 2 vs 1 , pay attention and fire at different moments than your ally, because then your enemy won't have a chance to attack, all he is going to have to do is to dodge. If he wants to attack, he's gonna risk himself.

    I give more tips...

if you can't dodge the shot, remember to repel the bullet!

Godamnit.. I just wrote A LOT about STRAYS... but when i tried to post it occuried an error and i lost everything. Damnit! I don't feel like writing everything again, I will do that another day. But since im here writing anyway I will leave a fast "tip" today so all my effort isnt lost.

Mega Newbie's Tip of the day

"The stray that isn't really a stray" -

in a 1v1, or even 1v2, whenever the enemy isn't in you radar, ask your teamates in spec for the enemy's coordinates, this way, you can fire at the right direction and kill the enemy with a shot.

I won many 1v1 by this way. People would complain after the game how It was a lucky stray. But the reality is that it was an aimed long distance shot. No luck, no stray, just a smart way to play.

    Try it.

    Mega Newbie's Tips

The illusional fast recharge "hack" - I was called "cheater" many times just for using this simple method, which cause many players get confused and believe theres a hack.
The warbird has 1500 energy. and it takes 1350 energy to fire a bullet. Some players just don't wait their energy get full, they keep constantly shooting. Thats how their energy looks like in a battle:

    0...1350...0...1350...0...1350...0...1350..0..

If you notice that you are playing one of these players that constantly fire, all you have to do is wait your energy get full and then fire at the same time as him, and then at the next shooting he's dead. You will get a 150 energy advantage thats gonna surprise him.

    his energy:
    1350.......0.......1200

    your energy:
    1500.....150......1350

That's when you kill him. Having full energy doesnt give you advantage at the first shot, but at the second one.

"you cheater! How did you reacharge so fast? we did fire at the same time!"

    Rushing

Here are my Tips for rushing:

Efficient energy use - Someday I asked 5 random players to go on a private arena to race. The rules was: Everyone would be on levs,no specials,no shooting, and run on a straight line (the same line for everyone, with no rocks on the way) across the map, till the end.

Even tought it looks like a simple race, there were 1st,2nd,3rd,4th and 5th places, by huge differences.

The 1st place would wait all his energy get full, so then he would thrust it all, while the 5th place would constantly use the energy, not waiting it fully recover.

It is simple to understand how it works. Every time you thrust your ship has first to accelerate to then, finally, get the maximum velocity. In other words: Every time you accelerate, you are wasting precious energy. Everytime you thrust, you lose energy for accelerating, till the ship gets at the maximum velocity, thats where the energy is wasted in a inneficient manner! The ship acceleration process is the problem. Its like a car. It takes more energy to make it start moving.

Now, many players naturally know that what im trying to say. However, rare are the players that use this lesson on the gameplay.

Whenever you are rushing, you have to thrust less times possible, and when thrusting, use it the maximum possible. This way you are going to use your energy in an efficient way.

If you enemy is running from you, and he did thrust 2 times, and you are following him, but only used thrust 1 time, then you got an energy advantage. Thats how you get energy advantage when rushing. It's time to kill him.

Same thing is used to know when to stop rushing. If you are following ur enemy, but he used thrust 1 time and to follow him you used 2 times, then its better you to go away, your enemy got more energy advantage than you.

"you cheater!!! how did you get so much energy??? I'm calling the mods"

Follow the enemy right behind at him - When rushing, follow the enemy right behind at him, this because, if he bounces in a rock, you will do it too. When this constanly happens, you not only let him not go away, but it shows how a great rusher you are and hes gonna shit in his pants when he sees your awesome following.

I will give more tips... another day... KISSES.
