    Draft Review

    TWDT-B

    Terrorist A

    Terr: Tiduz
Sharks: mcvicar, Markmrw, Dwopple, BongHits (7), Rodney (7)
Spiders: Turban, Dreamwin, Ro, beanie, TJ Hazuki, Hypocrit, Okyo (7), Kado (7), Steep (7)

Dreamwin drafted eleven 8+ star basers... for five spots. There were an average of 6.1 8+ star basers per team on draft day, meaning he took double the average recommended number. Yikes. There's going to be a lot of unhappy players on that team come Week 1.

Tiduz is a big question mark, he was great in the three games he played for Silence last season, then disappeared in the playoffs when they needed him an got eliminated. Dreamwin could take up the reigns again if that happens.

Their likely starting line in shark is mcvicar and markmrw, unless they get lucky and Dwopple shows -- we'll see. They could also play Rodney at 7-Star, who is the defending TWDT-B champion, to fill one of their two mandatory 7-Star spots. Very strong at shark.

They're also stacked at spider, with the best player in the game at the moment in Turban, the defending TWLB and TWDT-B champ who has been a world destroyer in spider. Dreamwin and Ro are fantastic as well. So are beanie, Hypocrit, TJ Hazuki, Okyo, Kado, and Steep.

This team is going to have a great cheerleader squadron who really appreciate the nuances of spidering.

    Power A

    Terr: Ogron
    Sharks: Zidane, ph
Spiders: M_M God, Davy, Omega Red, Mr. Homo (7), Best (7), Ra (7), Holy Ship (7), Raples (7)

Zidane picked 6 starters from Thunder/Burn, showing the originality of an NBC TV executive, but unlike Dreamwin picked six 8+ stars for 5 spots, balancing his picks across all three leagues and having a lot less tough decisions to make.

Ogron has reached five straight basing finals (terring four), and will be looking to make it six as he quarterbacks a strong line ahead of arguably the strongest sharking combo in the league in Zidane and ph, while Omega can also fill in if needed at the position.

Power's front three is the strongest in the game, but their spiders are looking very strong as well, with legends like M_M God and Davy leading the over, with Omega Red not far behind, and the strongest list of 7-Star spiders in the game, featuring Mr. Homo, Ra, Holy Ship, and Best.

Iron Survivor will look to become their 6-Star and develop into an underspider and become the next Geio.

Probably the most balanced basing contender, with no weaknesses.

    Silence A-

    Terr: Heaven (7)
Sharks: Mattey, Commodo, Mythril, Fire Phoenix (7)
Spiders: Trasher, SquallFF8, Henry Saari, Sprained, Gazo, Skepsis (7), Raazi (7), LS (7), NowYouDie (7), Backon (7)

This is a very good team Commodo has put together, and reminds me a lot of TWDT-B 2015 champion Patouf, with Heaven at terr as a low-star letting them field an extra high-star spider, while Mattey/Commodo once again form a top-two shark duo in the zone (with only ph/zid in the same tier), providing him ample protection, as Trasher, Squall, Henry/Sprained do work.

In fact, Heaven/Trasher/Sprained were on that very team that won. They have a lot of quality 7s, and should be a force in TWDT-B.

    Mortal B+

    Terr: Pressure
Sharks: Oder, Valker (7), Morph (7)
Spiders: Cripple, Stayon, Spezza, Minotar, Spawnisen (7), Rab (7), Stung (7)

Healt has perhaps the most OP overspider trio in Cripple, Stayon, and Spezza (assuming the latter shows, which is spotty at best), and a top 3 terrier in Pressure, so they have a lot of potential in base.

Oder is a solid shark, and while Morph and Valker fill a 7-Star spot and are decent sharks, they are definitely thin at the position relative to Terrorist, Power, Commodo, and even Avengers, beating out only Curse (unless they shark JAMAL and milosh, in which case Mortal is dead last in shark power.)

They have quality low stars, the best spider trio in the league, and a quality terr, which should be enough to compete at a high level and contend for a title.

    A line of Pressure + Oder/Valker (7) + Cripple/Stayon/Spezza/Stung (7)/Gurliver (6) is a potential championship team.

They have the perfect amount of high-stars and low-stars, so they didnt sacrifice too much in other leagues. Good picks!

    Avengers B-

    Terrs: Mikkiz
    Sharks: Porkjet, 24 (7)
Spiders: Hellkite, Solace, Sphinx, pavement, Spikey, vys (7), i.d. (7), Zazu (7)

Tiny has assembled a nice team here, headlined by 3x TWDT-B Champion and 1x TWLB Champion Mikkiz, with legendary shark Porkjet partnering with 7-Star 24 in shark.

Hellkite, Solace, Spikey, Sphinx, and pavement are a formidable spider core, unfortunately the majority of these players are unlikely to show or be active, leaving Hellkite more likely to play with Zazu and vys than Spikey and Sphinx.

Tiny took a bunch of fliers on inactive spider legends, which is a good strategy, but obviously is a high-risk, high-reward gamble. We'll see if it pays off.

If it does, this team could be a legitimate contender. If it doesn't, they'll still be a good team, but will have a tough slog against some fierce competition unless they upgrade via trade or FA.

Mikkiz, Hellkite, and Porkjet are beasts in base, so they have a great all-star core to build around going forward.

    Curse C

Terrs: maketso (7), Major Crisis (7)
    Sharks: milosh (7), dald (7)
Spiders: JAMAL, Skatarius, Zizzo, Bram, Ricko, Sulla (7), Anidalife (7)

Curse has some ferocious spiders in JAMAL, Skatarius, Zizzo, Bram, and quality in Ricko and Anidalife. They are too thin, however, at terr and shark, with zero 8+ star basers at those positions, which is too much to compete at a high level.

I think you can field one 7-Star max at terr/shark, and they're starting three. Yikes.

For now, I think they'll have to shark JAMAL, with this line:

Major Crisis (7) + JAMAL/milosh (7) + Skatarius/Zizzo/Bram over and Ricko/Smoking Blue (6) under. That is a solid line that can compete. maketso can also fit in there at either terr or spider, but they need to trade or use the FA if they want to be true contenders. Anidalife could also be a valuable asset as a 7-Star spider if they upgrade at shark.

    ---

While there are definitely a few frontrunners in base, every team has good cores and even the "weakest" teams are only 1-2 pieces away from being legitimate threats in TWDT-B.

I think Commodo made a mistake in not drafting a terr, Curse desperately needs to trade or draft for a shark, and Dreamwin took many too many basers, but otherwise caps all did a pretty good job, and none are hopeless from the get-go.

    TWDT-D

    Power A

Starters: Best, Iron Survivor, Cres, Ogron (7), Beam (6)
Subs: Guero, Zidane (7), bad game (7), M_M God (6)

Best is, quite simply, the best warbird in the game, and it hasn't been close for awhile. He has reached the last five warbird finals in both TWL and TWDT -- he is an absolute force.

Iron Survivor and Cres are the current TWLD champions, and Iron has been a monster for two years now. This front three is scary.

Their low-stars are good, and they have some strong 7s who can do damage. Beam could be a difference-maker if he chooses to be.

Any team with Best is a contender, and with Iron and Cres, they're the team to beat.

    Silence A

Starters: Skepsis, Mythril, Raazi, Trasher (7), Lee (6)

Subs: Racketeer, Last Standing, Paky Dude (7), Henry Saari (6)

Silence has a phenomenal starting trio in Skepsis, Mythril, and Raazi, being 3 of the best players in the TWLD Finals the past few seasons, with some great depth with Paladen superstar Racketeer ready to take over games and nice pieces at the 7-Star in Trasher and Paky.

Their only minor weakness is a lack of good 6-Stars, but that shouldn't be too hard to fix down the road.

This team is a definite contender for the TWDT-D title and should be intimidating to play against.

    Curse A-

Starters: Ricko, Weak, Attacks, FatRolls (7), Lena (6)
    Subs: JAMAL, Absent, Zizzo (7), Wiibimbo (7), maketso (7), Klean-X (6)

Curse has a fantastic warbird team, which isn't surprising given they have the only warbird captain in TWDT.

Ricko is a superstar WB, playing alongside 2x TWLD champion and defending TWDT-D champion Weak, and current TWLD champ Attacks who impressed this year.

They also have a great value at the 7-Star in FatRolls, who is a great player, and strong 6-stars as well.

Absent is a superb warbird, as is JAMAL when the mood strikes him, so look for Curse to do some serious damage.

This team is a legitimate contender in TWDT-D assuming Weak shows, and probably still a darkhorse if he doesn't.

    Terrorist B+

Starters: Okyo, Kentaro, Turban, Delectable (7), Kado (6)
Bench: Ro, Dreamwin, Little Buddhist, ROWS, Wicket666

Fresh off his TWLD win, Okyo will lead a pair of Cobramin in Kentaro and Turban, forming a strong but unspectacular trio.

Where Terrorist shines is with their low-stars, with some of the best value in the game, having Delectable as a 7-Star and Kado as a 6-Star.

This is a solid, balanced line that should be able to compete every week, with tons of low-star depth and some possibilities in Ro and Dreamwin should anyone be unable to show.

    Mortal B-

Starters: Racka, Shadowmere, Tripin, Afri (7), Jebass (6)
Subs: Siaxis, Spezza, not u (7), failed (7), Stung (6)

Mortal has some nice pieces in TWDT-D, headlined by a great warbird in Racka, and strong players in Tripin, Shadowmere, Siaxis and Spezza, and some decent low-star players (but nothing special.)

They have good depth at every star slot, and some real horsepower to kickstart their season in warbird.

They should be competitive every week, although I feel like they're one star player short of being a contender.

    Avengers B-

Starters: Vys, Geio, 24, Chuckle (7), Tiny (6)
    Subs: 2pacZ, Rasaq, Olde (7), Spikey (7), Cloth (7), Server (7)

Avengers has a very nice line, with TWDT-D Finals MVP vys headlining four quality warbirds including 24, who is a TWDT-D assassin and also a defending champ, and Geio, who had a great season in TWDT 2016 Winter as well, while 2pacZ had a breakout performance in TWLD, culminating in a TWLD Finals start.

Chuckle could be a difference-maker at the 7, but I doubt he shows, and I find their low-stars at both the 7 and 6 are very weak, probably the worst in the league by far, which hurts because that's 40% of your line.

Vys has a 50/50 showrate, Rasaq won't show, but if they can coalesce some upgrades at the low star positions they could surround Vys, Geio, 24 and 2pacz with enough talent to make a run at a title.

As of now, however, they show a ton of potential, but lack polish.

    ---

Boy, what a change a year makes. TWDT-D was a complete disaster and a barren field empty of talent last season, and there isn't a single bad team this year. There isn't a C-grade to be found, which is a testament to the improvement in this season's crop of warbirds.

Maybe Fierce dying was the best thing to happen to WB.

The top 3 teams are capable of winning a title now, and the bottom 3 are maybe one move away from being there. All 6 captains drafted very well in this league. Nice work!

      TWDT-J

      Avengers A

      Starters: Tiny, 24, Children, Hellkite (7), 2pacz (6)
      Subs: Vys (7), Geio (7), Spikey (7), Paradise, Mikkiz (7), i.d. (7), Cross (7), Cloth (6), Chuckle (6)

Avengers has assembled a great group of jav superhoes, frontlined by Tiny, 24 and Children, all superstar players.

They've got one of the best 7-Star javelins in Hellkite, then about another seven amazing 7-Star players as well, although not much at the 6.

This team is deep and talented, and Tiny's team will once again look to reach the finals in TWDT-J.

      Terrorist A

Starters: Turban, Dreamwin, Ro, Kado (7), Yojimbo (6)
Subs: Hypocrit, Okyo, Singer, Tiduz (7), Kentaro (6), Pat B (6)

Dreamwin's draft lotto luck continued unabated this year. After getting the #2 pick last season, he nabbed the #1 pick this season, and taking Turban, who is coming off a TWLJ Finals win and is 7-0 in jav finals, as this lethal duo looks to defend Terrorist's TWDT-J title.

And being two of the best javs in the game, they have more than enough help to do so, with options like Ro, Hypocrit, Okyo, and Singer great options to fill that third high-star slot, and a great 7-Star in Kado.

This team is easily a contender for the championship.

      Power A

Starters: Zidane, Best, Steadman, Fork (7), Omega Red (6)

Subs: Iron Survivor, Hurricane, Raples (7), Mad Jack (7), Ogron (6), Cres (6), Omega Red (6)

This is a monster jav line, featuring TWLJ Champions Zidane, Best, and Steadman, all of whom have won titles together giving them instant synergy.

Then they have maybe the best low star javs in the league, with Fork and Raples fantastic 7-Star value, and Omega Red a beast at 6, although Cres or Ogron could see time (Editor's Note: Zid says "prob not, omega a beast" : ( ) Dis guy already forget TWDT-J 2014?

If Steadman or someone disappears, Iron is poised to step in and dominate. Hurricane seems like an empty pick that will never show.

Power are definitely one of the favorites in TWDT-J.

      Mortal A-

Starters: Stayon, Shadowmere, Healt, Racka (7), Rab (6)

Subs: Spawnisen, Morph (7), Spezza (6), Cripple (6)

Mortal has a fantastic starting trio in Stayon, Shadowmere, and Healt, with some of the best 7-Stars in Racka and Morph, although their bench is extremely thin, with only Spawnisen standing out -- and he's questionable to show.

This is a great core to compete for a title, and I think they'll go far.

      Silence A-

Starters: Commodo, Roiwerk, Kim, Last Standing (7), Heaven (6)
      Subs: Trasher, NowYouDie, Mythril, Skepsis (7), Raazi (7), Mattey (6), SquallFF8 (6)

Commodo has re-formed his 2015 TWDT-J championship line in himself, Roiwerk, and Kim, looking to re-capture lightning in a bottle, and he definitely has the high-star talent to do so, although his low-star pool isn't as deep or skilled as several other teams.

This is a great line that already has proven synergy, and should be a legitimate threat to Terrorist, Power, and Avengers' ambitions.

      Curse B-

Starters: Shaun, Zizzo, maketso, JAMAL (7), Bram (6)
Subs: Kira Yamato, Rampage, Weak (7), Ricko (7), Major Crisis (7), Dald (7), Big Sean (7), Slum (7)

Curse has some nice pieces in TWDT-J, with a solid starting five and some good high-star players, but lacks the superstar potential of many of the other teams. They have good depth, and like five amazing 7-Star javelins, and great value at the 6-Star in Bram.

They're very solid across the board in jav, but I'm not sure they have enough firepower to seriously compete for a championship.

      ---

Man, jav is deep. TWLJ is probably the strongest league left, and the talent pool has remained incredibly strong, as showcased in this draft. There are no bad teams here, and these should be some really tough and fun games, and all the caps did very well putting their lines together here.

        Final Thoughts

Well, the TWDT 2016 Fall season is now offically underway!

We had a fun draft, more people showed up to see the draft than they did the TWL Finals, and I enjoyed doing live commentary for the 30-40 something odd people who tuned in -- I hope you guys enjoyed it.

It started off with a bang, with Dreamwin shockingly choosing Turban over Stayon with the #1 overall pick, and there was some fun and exciting moments, as well as some dunderhead moments.

I thought all the caps acquitted themselves well and drafted competitive squadrons, and I think every team has tons of talent.

That said, some captains did draft slightly better than others -- let's find out who!

Of course, life being not fair, the two winningest and most experienced TWDT captains got the first two picks, and they made the most of their luck.

Defending TWDT-J Champion Dreamwin's Terrorist (A B+ A) will be looking to become the winningest team of all-time, and DW started with a huge leg-up on the competition getting a 3-League superstar like Turban, and never letting up, with a ridiculously stacked basing line, a strong warbird line, and a superb javelin team. The only real criticisms that can be leveled are drafting too many basers and perhaps one superstar short in warbird, but those are minor grievances. Look for Terrorist to try to make all three finals for a second year in a row.

Zidane's Power (A A A), however, perhaps had the strongest draft out of all the caps, which is unsurprising given he has capped almost every season since 2011 and reached seven TWDT finals. Usually picking two warbirds in the first two rounds means you're not going far in jav or base, but Zid managed to start both the terr run and the base package run (always ideal to be at the beginning and not the end of them), rattling off 5 straight basing picks, then stealing Cres in the 8th round and Steadman in the 9th, rounding out his warbird and javing lines with just enough depth to compete in all three.

Newcomer Healt, leading Mortal (B+ B- A-) in his first season as cap, did a very good job drafting, fielding strong lines in TWDT-B, TWDT-D, and TWDT-J. He took Stayon in the first round, then followed it up with Shadowmere, snagging a top-tier terr right after Zid, and putting together the strongest spider line in the league in Cripple, Stayon and Spezza, and should be competitive all around, although his jav line is particularly fearsome and should be a force.

Defending TWDT-D Champion Tiny's Avengers (B- B- A) drafted fourth, taking TWDT titan 24, building a solid core of basers around Hellkite, Mikkiz and porkjet, then taking strong warbirds, stealing Children in the eighth (a great pickup at that price), and taking smart fliers on Solace, Spikey and Pavement. He should be strong in base and warbird, and a monster in javelin.

Attacks' Curse (C A- B-) drew the short end of the stick going fifth, but still managed to put together a good team, taking superstars JAMAL and Ricko, and nabbing some very good javs, a good core of basers he needs to build on, and an elite warbird unit that will definitely compete for a title, headlined by Ricko, Attacks, and Weak. He will get the #1 Free Agency draft pick, so any big signup will significantly bolster his chances across multiple leagues.

2015 TWDT-D and TWDT-J Champion Commodo returns for the third consecutive season, leading Silence (A- A A-) with an excellent draft, earning one of the only two Triple-A ratings despite having the last draft pick. Nice work! I really liked his picks all the way through the draft, nabbing Trasher and Mythril #6 and #7, fantastic 3-league value each, and then going Mattey and Raazi, then SquallFF8 and Roiwerk -- all superb picks with high showrate. He even stole Skepsis in the eighth round (who will show every game) and Kim in the tenth -- wowza! The only mistake he made the entire draft was failing to grab a terr, and getting greedy and ignoring Oder and Tiduz even tho they went later than they should have. Oops!

All the teams are really strong this year, and the captains all seem competent and drafted fairly well. I'm not thrilled that the past two seasons, the top picks have gone to the best and most experienced caps (Commodo #1 and Dreamwin #3 last season, and Dreamwin #1 and Zidane #2 this season), but hopefully some big names sign up in the Free Agency draft where Attacks and Healt can capitalize and leave the others caps green with envy (Attacks is paypal'ing Ease as we speak.)

I think this is going to be a great season, and it looks to be incredibly competitive.

That's all for now, good luck to everyone this season!

I have to agree with Claus in that all caps drafted pretty strongly across the board. Big named signed up and huge steals were there but it will all depend on who shows right? Half the battle is just showing up so this will always be a factor in deciding the victors in this highly competitive league where everyone looks strong as fuck (one paper).

Thanks Claus for running the league and writing these detailed and extensive reviews to hype us all up. I know how hard it can be to dedicate time and thought to contributing to a league so I just want to let you know that the community appreciates it greatly, even if all do not verbally say it.

You are doing god's work man, keep it up and if you need help with something holler at your boy.
