Since ranks are based solely off total dollars for 1 ship only. It only makes sense to stick to 1 ship and play as many games as possible to earn the most TSL bux for the specific ship.

So that means that the most active players will make all-star playoffs considering you earn TSL bux for every game played. The rankings are not based on skill but on games played.

Am I correct in this assumption?

This is explained in like twenty different threads, including a thread titled: TSL ALL-STAR QUALIFICATIONS, which is stickied:

It is not calculating all your games played, it only counts your 20 best games.

There are 10 spider spots -- the standings count your 20 best spider games.

There are 4 shark spots -- it counts your 20 best shark games.

There are 2 terr spots -- it counts your 20 best terr games.

There are 2 multi-ship spots -- they count your 20 best games in all three ships.

          Example:

I'm listed with 775$ value. But I've produced over 1400$ in value across all my games. It is only summing my 20 best games, which comes to 775$.

I could play the next 50 games in a row, and if I get 25$ in every game, my value will still be 775$, because 25$ isn't good enough fall into my top 20 games.

I still think it should be top 20 games for players who play 100 games, but top 20% of your games for players who play more than 100 games. For example, if a player plays 200 games, their top 40 will count (still a pretty dilute number, best 80 games would be ideal IMO, but 40 is still better than 20). This avoids the inconsistency problem zid pointed out in another thread (ie, if a player sucks in 80/100 games, and plays well in the other 20, they'll still make playoffs even though they are inconsistent).
